Dear Parents / Caregivers

As part of our outdoor education and health curriculum Room 6 children will be learning to sail in Optimist Yachts at Pandora Pond, Napier on Tuesday 11th December. The cost was covered in the camp fees.

We will leave school at 9.00 am, returning to school by 3.00 pm. Children will need to bring;

Ÿ    Morning tea Ÿ    Drink bottle Ÿ    Lunch
Ÿ    Sunhat Ÿ    Towel Ÿ    Sunscreen
Ÿ    Windproof jacket Ÿ    Covered footwear Ÿ    Personal medication
Ÿ    Togs/wetsuit Ÿ    Woollen jersey or thermal

Children will be instructed beforehand on sailing skills, rope knotting, use of life jackets and parts of the optimist yacht.

It is important we have at least 6 parents for the day to transport and to stay and supervise children.  Children will be instructed by myself and Mr Lovell.

We will travel by car to and from the site.

If anyone is able to loan ‘sit on kayaks’ and /or a trailer for the day, please contact me.

Week 7

This week there will be a notice about optimist yachting heading your way. Please return asap.

On Wednesday (weather permitting) we have the final Coastal Cluster event at Farndon Park. Almost all the class has volunteered which is great to see.

We will continue with a focus on ‘relative clauses’ in language and algebraic thinking in maths along with revising and practicing concepts learned during the year.

Room 6 children finished as top class in last week’s in school Move It challenge with 95%. Thanks for your support.

Week 6

Thank you children and parents for supporting the Move It campaign. Room 6 has not only led by example with close to 90% moving it everyday but they have been putting out the flags and punching cards for the last five weeks.

We have four out of school events to finish of the year.

  1. Cafe visit @ Clifton this Thursday
  2. Softball @ Farndon Park on Wednesday 28
  3. Triathlon champs @ Frimley on Tuesday 4
  4. Optimist yachting @ Pandora Tuesday 11

Please let me know if you can assist. 5-6 parents are required for yachting to go ahead.

MOVE IT Reward

It’s time to MOVE IT!

Notice going home today!

As a reward for being part of Move It for the first five weeks of term four the senior students are going on a bike ride to the Hygge Cafe at Clifton. You are invited to ride (or drive) along with us.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Date: Thursday 22 November
  • Time:
  • R4 boys and R6 – 9.25am departure, 11.40am return
  • R4 girls and R5 – 12.00pm departure, 2.30pm return

In addition to the ride, tamariki will go through a briefing to introduce the instructors and basic safety for riding together. If you are riding with the pack you are welcome to start with us at 9.00 am and meet the instructors.

There will be coffee for the adults and icecream for the tamariki care of the Move It team. Plus a scavenger hunt down at the cafe.

We need a few parents to ride with each group to ensure that we can spread out along the group and keep everyone safe. We also need a driver for my car with the bike racks and/or trailer.

Bikes at School

CYCLE & ROAD SAFETY FORTNIGHT – ROOM 4, 5 & 6 CHILDREN

(Monday 5 November – Friday 16 November)

Dear Parents / Caregivers

The senior team is focussing on bike safety for the next two weeks.

This is an important skill for children of this age as it ensures –

  • Children are aware of road safety rules
  • Children are able to use their bike with reasonable skill to be safe on the roads
  • Children have some ability to identify and remedy some bike maintenance strategies

To facilitate a successful learning fortnight it is essential children have a bike readily available for the entire time of road safety.  These bikes may be kept in storage at school for the two weeks from Monday 5th November, or those confident children can continue to cycle safely to and from school based on parent’s advice and support.

There are two other important steps to be taken before this –

  1. A maintenance check on the bike using the attached sheet as a guideline.
  2. Personal items are brought to school including a correctly fitted helmet and covered shoes.

Bikes need to be at school Monday morning.  If your child does not have a bike, the children will be sharing to ensure everyone has the opportunity to participate.

It would be appreciated if parents could find time to check bikes for safety prior to coming to school.

Tri Training

HB PRIMARY SCHOOL TRIATHLON CHAMPIONSHIPS

The HB Primary School Triathlon takes place on the 4th December.  Your child has volunteered to represent the school at this event either as an individual or team member.  Entry forms will be out later in the term but training starts this week.

We will have cycle rides on Thursday and cycle/run training on Friday.  Swimming and transition practice will take place when the pool opens.

Please ensure that your child is organised with bike, helmet, and shoes to ensure that they are able to make the most of these opportunities.
